Not to be deterred by a virus, Penrith Agricultural Society has decided to run a virtual show this year, including a dry stone walling competition, organised by the DSWA Cumbria Branch, details of which are shown below. Your entry form should be sent to Chris Bratt at by no later than 15 July.

There will be one Open Class in this walling competition.

Entrants will need to build their own socially distanced 2 metre length of wall, at least 42” in height, including cams.

The wall must be built in Cumbria.

Entrants will need to take at least three photographs : the foundations and laid out site; at throughstone level; and the finished wall. One photo should include the waller as well. A piece of paper with the words “JULY 2020” should also be visible in one photo, to prove (as if there’d be any cheating!) that the wall was built in July this year!
Your wall needs to be completed, and photographs submitted by 15 July but the work does not have to be completed in a day!

The photos should be sent via email to Alison at the DSWA office. ( George Allonby will be the judge and will, if necessary, visit a shortlist of walls before the final decisions are taken.

There will be four prizes:
1st £100.00 (Donated by DSWA Cumbria Branch)
2nd £ 75.00 (Donated by George Allonby)
3rd £ 50.00 (Donated by Brougham Lodge)
and DSWA Cumbria Branch Chairman’s Prize (£20.00) for the best cams!
