On Saturday, 19th April, Dave Goulder—DSWA Master Craftsman, author, and folk musician—was formally presented with the British Empire Medal (BEM) by Lord-Lieutenant Major General Patrick Marriott in a special ceremony held at the Oykel Bridge Hotel, attended by his family.

Dave received the BEM in the King’s 2025 New Year Honours List in recognition of his outstanding contributions to dry stone walling and to the community of Rosehall, Sutherland.

During the presentation, the Lord-Lieutenant spoke warmly of the honour of presenting the award to Dave, describing him as “a considerate and generous teacher” whose work has been rooted in “a deep love for this land, its people, and his craft.”

On behalf of everyone at the DSWA, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dave on this well-deserved recognition.
