Participants will gain a basic understanding of drystone fence and retaining wall construction for project design and/or construction inspection purposes.
Dates and locations for our currently scheduled workshops are shown on the accompanying registration form. Workshops run from 8:30 AM to 4 PM both days, beginning with a classroom introduction to the theories and techniques of dry stone masonry, followed by practical hands-on instruction restoring or building a dry stone wall. Participants bring their own food and beverages (unless otherwise noted), work gloves and a 3-4 lb. rock or brick hammer (we will have some extras hammers for those who do not already have them). We can offer only limited assistance with travel and lodging arrangements.
The Conservancy’s two-day workshop fee is $250.00 (unless otherwise noted) and includes a copy of our training manual Building and Repairing Dry Stone Fences & Retaining Walls.
To register, please fill out and return the enclosed registration form along with a $50.00 deposit for each workshop you wish to attend. We will send a confirmation letter within a few days receipt as well as follow-up letter two weeks prior to the workshop with directions to the site and more detailed instructions.
Please be aware that the number of participants in each workshop is limited and that workshops are often fully-booked well in advance. We strongly recommend that you reply quickly in order to guarantee your spot.
If you are unable to attend a workshop at this time but would like to remain on our mailing list for future workshops, please return the enclosed Future Notification Request Form.
The mission of the Dry Stone Conservancy is to revive and promote the ancient craft of dry stone masonry
and to preserve existing dry stone structures. The DSC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
